A collection reflecting the volunteers' impressions

by Ludwig Grobmeier

Ballad of the IFTR

It's on display,

this feeling of wonder

when visitors come from far away.

Some now, some delay,

reaching our harbor

and all having a lot to say.

If this conference were a ship

I'm glad to have this well-oiled crew.

Something's amiss? We'll take the trip.

The tool you need, we have it too.

Check it once, check it thrice,

keep problems at bay,

in rhythm we try to foresee.

Delegate the tasks,

find another way.

Where do we keep the coffee?

If you are lost, we'll be your guide!

If you are bored, well that's a lie.

If you want to talk, don’t be shy.

If you want to check in, can you please spell your name, have you already paid for the party ticket, here's your welcome-bag, we are glad to have you!

And as the day ends

at the Captain‘s summons,

she recaps our wins.

And after we discuss,

the next shift comes,

another day begins.

What you inspire

in me about theatre,

across war, science, art and more,

builds an empire and

at centre stage

the muse cries for an encore.

As the curtains close,

(Look at how those girls can dance!)

We must say our goodbye.

As sailors, sail through the sky,

searching for another canvas,

something will catch our eye.

In the end

For what it’s worth,

Take heart and keep

Reaching forth.

Karnevalsgalerie

Performing Carnival during the IFTR-Conference 2025
by A-In Oh

Karnevalsgalerie (Perspectives on Carnival)

Before the IFTR-Conference 2025 could take place on the humble, ever-changing, ever-under-construction University of Cologne’s main campus, volunteers-to-be gathered together on three different days, surrounded by the chirping of birds in Schloss Wahn, to familiarise themselves with Perspectives on Carnival.

What does »Carnival« mean to us? What does it mean for others? In addition to reading literature on Bachtin's theories and practices in Genua, every volunteer in training was encouraged to reflect on their own experiences. Their presentations unfolded patterns of The Carnivalsque, its possibilities. and perhaps limitations.

Assigned to the conference’s key-words Ekstasis, Subversion and Metamorphosis, the »Karnevalsgalerievideo« is the product and proud display of this groundwork. It also aims to show the IFTR-Volunteer’s capabilities through a contemporary tune created by Sophie Süsterhenn and photographs taken on-site by Rosa Peter.

Enjoy!
