Dear All,

with this newsletter, we start to send out more specific information about our conference as the program takes shape. For this purpose, we are sending out the newsletter to all of you who have received a letter of acceptance. Thus, we try to centralize our communication – and your responses. Only if we get them through iftr-orgaSpamProtectionuni-koeln.de we can make sure that they do not get lost in the innumerable messages sent back and forth. CC: German Bakeries. While strolling through Cologne, you should visit one of the many bakeries. Whether family-owned, artisan, or belonging to one of the many chains of bakeries of the country (such as »Merzenich«, »Kamps«, or »Mauel« 1883), they offer a wide variety of breads like rye mixes, whole grains, or rolls. Would you prefer something sweet? Please, have one of the numerous pastries and cakes. »Kaffee und Kuchen« (similar to British tea-time, with much more cream cake and much less tea…) is indeed a specialty in itself of German life. In a »Bäckerei«, you are therefore likely to find some »Schokocroissants«, Rhineland »Apfelriemchen«, or even one of John F. Kennedy’s favorite cakes, the »Berliner«. Many bakeries also offer vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free choices. Most are open from around 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., even on weekends. Just be sure to check whether it’s a »Bäckerei« (more bread) or a »Konditorei« (more cakes) – Bakeries are therefore quite different from one another, with some offering places to sit, more like usual cafés, and others serving mainly takeaways. You will be able to find them anywhere in the city, in the center, in the university district, or on any busy street. Just remember to bring cash, as cards aren’t always accepted. (Jeanne Lopata)

FoWThe famous performing poodle Dick is proudly presented as »inventor of the serpentine dance« in Pierre Hachet-Souplets 1898 manual on the training of show animals. In true fool fashion, he makes fun of the dance made popular by Loie Fuller with his own rendition of the role of Salome. (Charlene Fündgens)

Alaaf - meaning as much as au fou de partout, to fools everywhere, we greet you!
