#5 Fool of the Week - Napolitan Pulcinella and the City of Fairs

Although our Fool of the Week, Pulcinella, reminds us of food preferences, the first step remains to choose where to stay! In Cologne, the city of fairs, planning early on is the best choice.

Dear All,

as the holiday season approaches in Germany, we would like to draw your attention to an important issue in this week's newsletter: ACCOMMODATION!

Cologne is one of Germany's most popular tourist destinations and an important location for trade and industrial fairs. During such trade fairs accommodation can, at times, become pricier than at other times of the year. Therefore, we recommend that you start looking for accommodation early. On our website you will find a list of possible hotels and hostels in different price categories. Please check here.

At the same time, it might be worth checking the usual websites for special offers - these are not available to us - so it might be worth checking for yourself.
And a last note: with your registration fee you will receive a ticket for public transport in the city. As the main campus is quite well connected, you might want to consider this as well.

CC:  This week, our Cologne Curiosity was written by the London Times: According to their ranking, Cologne is Europe’s Best if you are looking for a broad variety of Christmas markets (https://www.thetimes.com/travel/destinations/europe-travel/best-christmas-markets-holidays-rff27td28). Heinzels Winter Fairytale, the Market of Angels and St Nicholas Village might be gone by the time IFTR comes to town, but we are sure you will find some of their charming atmosphere still here! (Peter W. Marx)

FOW:
Just as we eat gingerbread, potato pancakes and marzipan flavored fruit loaf at our Christmas markets, the Napolitan Pulcinella loves to devour pasta. There are plenty of depictions of him in our collection – here you can see a crowd of people dressed as him in the middle of a masquerade and pageant in Milan. The picture is part of the so-called Liebig pictures. These collectors’ items were a popular supplement to the products of Liebig's Extract of Meat Company and often exceeded the demand for these products themselves.

Alaaf - meaning as much as au fou de partout, to fools everywhere, we greet you!
More soon, yours
